A6M5b double vision gunsights
« on: April 29, 2017, 02:23:00 PM »
I have tried all gunsights available, including just a dot, in the A6M5b and all have bad double vision.  The American/German/English rides seem to be okay.  Since the A6M5b is my favorite ride this could cause the Rift to go back.  Is there a setting I am missing?  I see the option for "Mono vision", but it is greyed out.

Thanks for the help!

Seeing two sights is normal when you focus on the sight. When you focus on your target you should see one sight.

No that isn't it. Yes seems the A6m sight sits off center(noticeably) more than some others. I reset head position and got it to almost normal. Its not as "mono" as some but I got it usable. Even moved head closer for A6 sight. Some of the German rides have an off center sight as well. But Zeke was hardest I had as far as getting it stabilized in VR

Thanks for the info.  I will play with the head position to see if I can improve it.  None of the other sights seemed any ways near as bad the Zeke's.  Wish they were all like the F4u's!

IPD was adjusted correctly and makes little difference with the Zeke sights.  Head position is best that can be obtained and still double vision.  :cry

Seeing double when an object is not at your focus point is a normal effect of stereopsis.

Quite right, but this is much worse than the other aircraft sights in VR.

I went offline to check on this(how my sight looked) as been a week or so since I flew A6. When I checked before, the sight was a bit off looking but manageable. Now however, no visible distortion or double vision AT ALL. So had a thought, I have gone into my graphics program and turned off the AA in Nvidia profiles and tweaked some other settings, Hue and Digital brilliance. Maybe the Anti Aliasing is what causes the sight distortion? No, I didn't go back and restore defaults :D Just that this is only thing I changed, might be worth looking at for your setup?

You may also have a dominant left eye.

VR reveals a lot of real world issues not normally revealed on a 2D screen.

Seeing two sights is normal when you focus on the sight.

I should have said seeing two sights is normal when you focus on the sight glass. The sight reticles, one for each eye, appear as if far away due to the reflector mirror, so focusing on the closer gunsight glass will cause two sight reticles to appear. If you can focus far enough away you should only see one reticle.

<slaps forehead> I think you nailed the problem Vulcan.  I know I am left eye dominate.  The A6M gunsights are mounted to the right side.  The 109 is also mounted to the right side and gives a similar problem, but not quite as bad due to a bigger sight glass.  If I move my head fractionally to the left or the right then the sight "singles up" better when focusing past it.  I don't seem to be able to adjust my views in the Rift like I can in 2D.  Either I talk my crew chief into remounting the sight or get used to leaning slightly when tracking a target.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: I finally figured out how to adjust the views in VR so my crew chief is off the hook!)
