I've seen Dukie own pilots fly far superior planes in his infamous P-40.  Yaks, Spits, 109's, F4U's - a lot of good rides available in the MA. Want to see a person prove their worth? Go fly in the AvA for a few weeks.

Wish there was more people in the AvA when I'm online, historic matchups and matchups where everyone is in the same ride are my favorites

Yup. I also see very few people fly a yak well, there's maybe half a dozen who are actually good in a yak. Yak3s are like little baby seals for a well flown Yak-9.

That is true for most of the top performing planes. We'd be in big trouble if the best players were flying around in La7s, or yak3s. Luckily most don't. A p38G, C205, 109F, Spit9, or P47D25 are usually bigger threats because of who tends to fly them.

I remember when our squad was close to 30 members, (during the 600 player titanic tuesday ) and 16 of us flew 262 to a full red radar bar, red guys enjoying vulching one of our fields. 2 minutes later, no red radar bar and noone came back to our field.
One of us augered and one got a smoking engine when he HO'ed a buff.
I guess war is more fun when you have all advantages.
Like Bozon said a well flown low ENY plane with a competent pilot in it with good strategic position pose more threat than a LA-7, Yak-3 with a less experienced pilot.

All the Yaks are good all around airplanes. The 9T is my choice for base defense because picking off troop carriers is often as important as other fighters. I can even take out some of the tanks with a 9T. Its a tough little booger as well and the 37mm gets you instant respect.

I'd call the Yak 3 one of the five best "15 or above eny" fighters in the game. Its a little weak with gunnery but its stable and easy to fly, most of all at the Alts most of the game is played at. And it does well in the vertical.

Once upon a time we had some guys who were murder in the Yak 9U. Its a very capable air frame even if the 3 has taken up much of its shine since introduced.

I think the real reason is because the map still isn't that great. We need to bring smog 8 map back. That map brought a lot of people to H2H. I still think it's too big.
