65ft?? That's why we don't really see NOE attacks anymore.

I'd say that's only a part of th equation. 65ft dar altitude alone is easy to deal with, as radars are easy to kill.  We had seen this in the past, one side taking advantage of another sides longer dar downtimes. They porked all dars along the frontline, and then would follow up with a NOE raid half an hour later.

The whole culture of the NOE smash and grab has left the game, with some exceptions from time to time. 250AGL certainly made it easier to be lazy about getting into auto level. And easier to manually follow complex terrain. The few times lately when I see an NOE with at least 10-15 guys, it's a 50:50 chance they get the capture. It leaves me scratching my head how they blow it, but a few guys get in the air, a few in wirbles, and it's bust for the attackers.

When you see a field flashing out of the way, someone usually looks to see what is up quickly these days. It's hard to do an NOE smash and grab with the smaller numbers and everyone looking for an easy fight. The popup off an NOE is usually easier to fight against than a 10 fighter jabo attack from 15k. I do wonder if the NOE alt was put back to 250AGL if people would start giving NOE missions a try again.

Do the mountains have an effect on either the dot or dar visibility? I mean on some maps it's possible to fly down valleys, do you still show a dar bar?

The altitudes are AGL, so wherever you are, if the distance between you and the ground is more than 65 or 250', you will show.  It's not that hard to stay below the 250' threshold, but over lumpy ground it's quite difficult to stay below 65'.

That's why most NOEs are over water these days.

Yes Wiley. It's hard to do NOE these days due to the terrain. 65ft is tough not to go over. So the water is the best bet.

Trees are ~50 ft tall.  At least when I've been testing takeoff clearance, that appears to be the case for some trees at the end of the runways.  It's very difficult to fly NOE and not hit the trees while remaining below the dar.  That's why most NOE these days is strictly over water.
