Scenario lite?
« on: August 21, 2017, 06:59:29 PM »
I was thinking, since the tank battles on Thursday night seem to have a decent turn out, maybe on a different night run a combined arms, historically correct, objective based battle.
A. Instead of taking bases where the defenders have a advantage via insta spawns and manned guns, make the objective a hill, bridge ect set an eqaull distance between oppposing bases.
B. Use a historical theme, ie, Tunisia, Kursk, Bagration, Italy, Bastonge, Seelowe hights.
C. A organised Start point. Each side will have a fighter wing, close air support wing, and a armored brigade which will launch at the same time
     Axis Bagrationn
     1. 4 Bf109G14s
     2. 4 Fw190 A5s
     2. 6 Fw190 F8s
     3. 6 Panzer 4h's
     4. 3 Panther
     5. German Half track Sub as needed for supplies
     6. 2 Ostwinds
    Soviet Bagration
    1. 6 La5's
    2. 2 Yak3's
    3. 3 P39Q's
    4. 3 Tu2s drones disabled
    5. 9 T34/85
    6. 2 M16mgc
    7. M3 sub as needed for supplies

Orders to take and hold hill x/y or bridge x/y. GVS unlimited lives, AC limited to one death every 30 mins?
Or run it similar to a scenario, 4 30 minute frames.

AvA with tanks only, players don't feel the good ride, bad ride thing as much on the ground as in the air. Monday night madness in the air worked in the AvA because the same rides were enabled on both sides. Not sure how you won't get the majority wanting to fly axis in your setup. When Waystin was an AVA CM in training, he had POTW fly the garbage ride side for him to get people into the arena. And we got stomped on by squads, and friends of squads, and every kiddy with an ax to grind. Somehow the word got out as soon as we suited up in the garbage rides.

As an FSO lite, this looks like something that could be a team sport if you had innings where the sides got swapped for the good ride bad ride thing. Still, knowing one side will be a whipping boy, most scenario will be tough getting people to show up. Give both sides the same gear and you might have a team sport. FSO works as much because of player commitment to showing up as the overall numbers make up a bit for some of the ride disadvantages. The smaller numbers of your rides will give the advantage to the good ride side if both sides are not in the same rides.

Given a choice between La5 and G14, many people (me! me!) will pick the Bolshevik ride.  39Qs can take on the FWs, I think.  From what I've heard, the T34/85 and the Panther are roughly equally-matched, as in real life.

Looks like a fine setup to me.  Would be happy to participate, if it's at a time when I'm free.

Come into the AvA on Thursday nights bustr. GYK or 715 in anything, or Mano in his M8, will own you in any ride you choose. It's not all bad though, you'll get twenty kills on me for every one I get on you. :D As for the rest of the guys, you're on your own.

This is a setup problem and can be overcome with knowledge of the rides. Two examples, an LA5 has no advantage over 109g6 without gondies and a setup with late war Allied monsters can be balanced by declaring the monsters busy somewhere else. We have flame proof suites against the criticism of "but that plane was there!" The good of the arena takes precedence.

Jaeger dose believe in letting the new staff members learn the hard way, but they will get pulled back if they aren't seeing the mistakes in balance. The good of the arena must take precedence.

As to the OP, Jaeger and I have put those on hold for now. We need the proper terrain for Bagration and it is included in my todo list, but I have two years work on my plate as it is.
Easy in-game again.

The problem is the inability to limit aircraft numbers vs lives. If we could punch a button for just 4 planes of one particular model or another, it would work. When you limit lives to 1 in 30 minutes, people tend to leave. So you see the problem is a catch22. Can it be done, sure it can. Will it work the way you want? Good question?
