I hate to say it but 30 years of staring into computer screens makes it a bit difficult to see sometimes. Couple this with the effect of having maps that are not all that exact, and it makes it a bit difficult to coordinate in-game. I suggest a couple of dot commands that act as a "navigator" when coupled with the autopilot.
We already have .speed so we can coordinate climb, but how about .course <xxx> so we can put all the bombers in the formation on the same course? We eye it, and try to fiddle with our views so we have a close up on the compass and the map, but having a .dot course command would be handy. It only has to work when on autopilot.
.Navigator - mission planning would be enhanced by having more precise navigation information. .navigator <base> is essentially me as the pilot calling down to the navigator to give me a course to the base I'm trying to get to. If I type out .navigator a8 I expect to have a reply of a8 bears xxx degrees true so I can set a course to it, or to some convenient waypoint. No, I don't expect it to find fleets -- so it only needs to work on airfields and vbases -- make the point the maproom or the tower as the point of reference the navigator plots.
It would also be nice during mission planning if while plotting waypoints on the map there were certain sticky points (the center of each KP in each sector, and each base) that the line would snap to, and then give me course and distance between waypoints and the base. That lets you put out maps of a mission that have course and distance between waypoints, and we be nice for mission planning in scenarios as well as in the MA.
