Theme Patches
« on: August 26, 2017, 02:43:46 PM »
The new crowd probably got these from time to time in other games.
Granted, this ain't other games ... this is THE game. However, it
would be cool (if labor intensive) to see a 'theme patch' drop from
time to time. Patches that offer some planes of vehicles that fill
event gaps. (New players have been inquiring about historical
setups. I've decided I'm gonna like some of these guys.)

Late(r) war (if it lasted a few moths more) jet patch:

Many a player has asked for some allied jets to offset the
German ones (in spite of Hitech's policy that at least one
full unit of the aircraft requested be formed and seen air
to air combat before war's end). I've been on the side up-
holding this policy for years. Now I wonder how much a
patch like this will siphon players who've already experienced
games that had such rides and might like to exprience
them in a REAL online combat simulator. If more late war
almost made it but never saw combat planes are modeled
in additional patches then perhaps an 'extended war' arena
would be warranted (though it might then be the most popular
one.  :uhoh

PROPLESS PATCH

        Jet Gloster Meteor F.3 (British)                          Jet P-80 Shooting Star (U.S.)

        Rocket Bereznyak-Isayev BI-1 (Soviet)           Jet Nakajima Kikka (Japanese)

Possible back stories for the 'Extended War Arena'

1: D-Day invasion failed or delayed. Operation Manhattan funds diverted
to extended operations/ second operation. (Possible 2 front extension.)

2: Operation Manhattan failed. (A Japanese war extension.)

3: Roosevelt survives. Unknown related events cause the war to go on a
year longer (aka .... it just did, ok?).

(This could possibly be followed up by a 'Super Prom - almost made
it patch.)

PACIFIC PATCH

       Yamato class battleship                                  Yokosuka D4Y 'Judy'

        Douglas TBD 'Devistator'                                Tamiya Type 97 Japanese Medium tank

Justification: An influx of new players may also mean
an influx of Pacific Theater event fans. That theater could
use some additions for event's sake.

TANK PATCH

       Tamiya Type 97 Japanese Medium tank           Italian Medium Tank Carro Armito M13/40

        M3 Stuart Light Tank (U.S.)                            M-24 Pershing Heavy Tank (U.S.)

Justification:
Many New Players may also be WOT players and
they may be drawn back away by a more robust
ground vehicle game.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And so on and so forth. Other games' players
love to comment on patches, regarding the
amount of additional player toys (micro
purchase, or not).
No what-if planes. No paper prototypes.
And if you got a plane to release, why hold it in secrecy so that you can release multiples in a patch? It takes a set time to develop a new plane, model it, test it, skin it, get it all ready for the game. They can't really do 4 at a time with no time's warning.
downvote for theme packs. I'd rather they just release them as soon as they get done so we can play with the new goodies.
The thing about other games that do "theme packs" (I'm looking at you, WarThunder) is they have copy/pasted flight models and they're PAID packs. You can't play those planes unless you buy them. That's just not how Aces High works.
Does this mean at some point task groups will become country type and some existing task groups repopulated with other country ships retroactively on Melee terrains?
This is like the old joke that voters are harsher to their beer brewer if he has an outage, than their politicians after raising their taxes. Death and taxes are certain but, fun and sex is only now.
No.
I was referring to the concept of "Themed" Patches.
It could just mean TGs of different country types would be available for events. I don't think the BBs of WWII can be balanced for MA. But then, players may ask for them in the MA and find out for themselves.
