PB4Y-2 5 Inch HVAR Rails

Came across this contraption while looking for SC-1 Seahawk photos from the USS Indianapolis.

The British did that with their lend lease B24's they used for maritime patrol.

-1 or -2?  I would have liked to have flown a -2 to compare the tow...except I think about all the -2s today have been retrofitted with Wright 2600s instead of the Pratt 1830s.

Both but the -2 is my favorite.

With that very tall rudder, is it equal to the combined area of the B24 dual rudders?

Sorry, the nose turret made me think B24J. The British were putting HVAR rails on their B24's for maritime patrol starting from earlier in the war.
