Low turnout but I shoe'd up 2001 .less than 2 months after Sept 11 Taliban attack..flew into Texas and had the time of my life !!  Lost in final round after disposing of HTC duel round 3..Shift was me wingman to the end🎲..we lost last round vs eagl &Drex (2 f15 USA pilots) in last round affer Shift shot down eagle. .I diverted merge on that one to pull off Drex..it worked..final round tried it again  ..it didn't. ..15 yr old SHIFT went on to be a RAF Harrier CV pilot 😊

I wouldn't expect any knights to show up, its hard enough to get one person to commit to bringing troops to a prepped base.

Over the years, I attended 4 Cons, the last being 2008. Always a blast, especially the Saturday evening Evil Con Mission  :devil :old:

Based on the forum statistics, the community activity is 1/4 what it was in 2008.  How many people were at that con?

I managed to get to two in, 2003 and 2004.  2003 was Indianpolis, organised by Jordi, who persuaded me that it would be a good idea to go; otherwise he said, I would be the first Head CM NOT to go - and I couldn't have that!  So I started making plans to get there as economically as possible.  :)  Flew into New York (much cheaper than going to Indy direct) and arranged to be picked up by Dux who was driving from Boston.  He booked us into a motel on the way - separate rooms of course! - and we continued to Indy the following day.  At the convention itself, I shared a room with Jordi on condition his wife Terri was also there!  Dux then drove me back to New York for my return flight, stopping overnight again on the way, and waited with me for about 6 hours I think it was until my flight was due.

Without the generosity of Jordi and Dux I would never have been able to go, but I'm very glad I did.  Getting to meet Dale and other HTC staff was a highlight of my visit which I will never forget.  It was also great to meet so many familiar names and put faces to them while I was there.

The following year, the convention was in Dallas organised by HTC.  This time, with a bit more notice to save for going, I flew to Chicago and then internal flight to Dallas, reversing the route for travelling home.  Arriving at airport and waiting ages for the 'regular bus service' between the airport and hotel, a bus-driver from another company contacted the hotel to ask when it was due.  Seems the service had ended for the day, but someone came out specially for me!  On arrival at the hotel, I was overwhelmed when Dale came and threw his arms around me, greeting me like a long-lost friend!

Two wonderful conventions which I will always remember.  :D

Me in a simpit(?) at 2004 convention.

Pipz, I hear ya - we do need a Canadian convention.  Had a quasi-one 2002 in Calgary - a bunch of us just went out for a beer (how Canadian of us).

We're a friendly bunch up here. Even the Moose are friendly.
