Stafflekapitan of the newly formed 12 Staffel/ Jg 54, in the spring of 1943. Despite being part of Jg 54, 12 Staffel was attached to Jg 26 and based in northern France. This was done as it was intended that all of Jg 54 would transfer west and replace Jg 26 on the Channel Front. This plan was abandoned mid-transfer and 12 Staffel would be sent east in July to become part of Jg 54's new IV Gruppe in Russia.
