My GV Wish.
« on: November 05, 2017, 11:44:14 PM »
I know it's been asked for when the change to GV's happened all those years ago but I'm sorry I have to wish for an option to shift my transmission manually.
I find the automatic on the GV's to be very wishy washy especially if you bump into these trees and it seems the transmission can't decide to go forward or backward. I've spent quite a bit of time working gv's off of trees and being frustrated as hell when I tell it to back up only to have the transmission pop right back into 1st when it clips a tree just a bit. If I tell my tank to back up I expect it to do its best to comply and not do it's impersonation of the vancom lady from MAD TV  "Yah know? Uh Uh"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlAxLGaDbnw   Except my M3 tank killer (Yes some of us do drive them) says "Soooo you've snagged a tree and you want to back up... Yah know? Uh Uh. We are going to keep trying to drive forward right on through this trunk and you're going to like it!"

Anyway just wouldn't mind the option like many driving games have, to select manual or auto transmission.   Thank you for letting me rant lol, was just annoyed the other night.  :bhead

Best kind of wish too, in that you include the option for people who don't prefer it to stay as is.

Hold the S key down continuously.  If you don't, and you have any steering input besides dead ahead, the software shifts into a forward gear and floors it.  Same thing happens if you turn your twisty stick a tad while stopped and engine running; vehicle takes off on its own.

Well thanks 715 but I'm very aware of how it works. I was around for years before and after the change was made to automatic transmissions and have never really liked it. It's always felt kinda mushy or something, no real crispness to it like the good old fashioned manual.  Maybe it's just me but I prefer not to use auto take off and actually fly my plane, use the gauges and not the hud, and would prefer to shift manually and not have it done for me.  I guess I'm more of a sim type player and things like that feel gamey or something.
And really 715 I do appreciate you trying to be helpful and was not snapping at you. Text seems to make words harsher than they are meant to be lol   :)

ok here it is-if you hit a tree and get stuck-hold the "W" button down-so the tanks keeps bumping forward it will kick you out-sometimes it takes awhile but better than towering and starting over-it's a program that HiTech put in to help get tanks from tree limbs and bushes-just gotta be patient.
next, if your tank isn't shifting-press and hold the shift and w buttons while twisting your twisty stick-if that don't work try recalibrating your stick. works for me.
I had not been playing long before they changed tanks to automatic. but I never noticed any difference in shifting-manual to automatic

I can not duplicate this? If I start backing up, let go of s. Turn and I simply continue backwards?

So THAT'S what your blaming it on, I thought it was from flying with Dieter.  :devil

The shifting doesn't make me THAT crazy.  Haven't flown with Dieter for forever. Not since he lost all that weight and moved to the dark side.   :D

Yes, if you are in an open field and reversing at good speed it will continue backwards as you steer.  If you are reversing slowly trying to extricate from a grove of trees it will often stop then shift into first and move forward.  Hit S until you are just moving backwards then release S and try to steer; if you are going slowly it will stop, shift into first, and proceed forwards.  (At least it does on my FE.)

Ahh sorry 715.  This is what I get for posting when I'm tired lol..  Didn't see that you were adding to the case.   And yes I get similar issues especially if on a slope with a tree rubbing the side of the gv. You try to go one way or other but the transmission can't decide what way to go even though you are pushing forward or back.  I'm fairly sure in reality you might lose some paint over rubbing a tree down the side of your truck but you really wouldn't be all that stuck like in game.
