Aircraft Vital Points
« on: November 17, 2017, 09:39:16 AM »
I like to mix up the offline drones out of boredom. Recently there's been a ring of He-111s flying on my shooting range. I find it a pretty tough aircraft to bring down. Identified the ugly-bags-of-mostly-water compartment as the only really vulnerable point. I believe four crew members sat close together in the main cockpit? Not so easy to catch on fire.

Anyway, it brought me to the thought of where the vital points are in different aircraft. So post where you typically prefer not to get shot, where your fuel tanks are etc in your favourite ride(s), then we can all benefit.

My fav: Ki-84. Very susceptable to pilot wounds, inner wing fuel tanks (only fill at 50%), fusalage tanks not very exposed. Pretty tough overall structure (a lot of internal structure infact, including to wing spars one of which runs right through).

No. That is the Kampfkopf concept, as implemented in planes like the Ju-88/188/388, Do 17/215/217/317. In the He-111, you have two distinct crew areas, one in front of the bomb bays(cockpit), the other behind it (gunner stations)

Wing tips on the HE111 seem to be pretty weak.  It seems to be the main area I've been able to get kills on them at.

Most bombers are pretty tough to kill if you hit the fuselage. Go for wing tips and/or engines. Ju-88 can soak up a ton of hits in the fuselage but burns like a match if you hit the fuel tanks in the wings. Anther fun thing to do, although quite a challenge, is to take out a Hurri I or Spit I and HO the bombers. 8x 303:s in the cockpit area is a guaranteed insta kill.

For fighters the notorious weak wing on the spits are obvious. I have cut one of with 40 fired rounds (.50)..
Cockpit area is always a good option on any plane.

For most bombers the wingtips are the weak point with the exception of the B24, ki67, and g4m which turn into a torch if you give them a cross look.

Interesting. Think there's a cockpit 'walkaround' in a He-111 on YouTube somewhere.

But I was more interested in the vital points of your favourite fighters.
