More Strat Ack May Be Needed
« on: November 16, 2017, 10:18:58 PM »
The Strat Ack used to be more difficult when bombing a Strat .. maybe just me, but haven't lost a bomber yet to Strat Ack.

I agree--I think the strat ack has been nerfed  no where near the amount of strat guns on any of the strats that there was in ah2

Heck in AH2 if you even got 10 mile from the city strat the puffy would be shooting at you and pinging- would hardly ever get thru that strat with all bombers or at least home in one piece.

ya need to give the strats more guns and make them more accurate.

Strat ack is occasionally accurate.  Ask ThndrEGG what happened to my F4U-1A when I flew to meet him over a strat to escort him home.  28,000 ft, on the very first poof of puffy ack, it took a wing off my plane.

Lost an aileron on one B-17 and an elevator on another just yesterday over an Ack strat... and I was at 32,000 ft.  The difference in speed on ingress run and outbound run was over 70mph.  I wouldn't expect the guns to have the same level of accuracy both in and out.

So I don't buy the notion that it's harmless.  I agree it's not as punishing as AHII, but it shouldn't be a death trap either.  Many won't defend strats at all anymore - making the ack so accurate as to guarantee plane loss will, IMO, simply make more people ignore defending them and more people unwilling to attack them.  How is that good for game play?

Strat puffy needs to be at least somewhat dangerous - give us some realism.   Big ack guns should be laying down puffy so thick we can walk on it.

Considering the value of the targets, I have always thought the flak was extremely light.  I've lost less than 10 planes to flak over strategic targets, over the NUMEROUS times I've flown over them.

Snail, of all the times you've done it, how many have you lost to flak?

Either way, the intensity does need to be bumped up.

I've enjoyed the visual effect of the intensity of City flak, and have often wished for this to be scaled up at the factories. I will agree that I'd like to see the lethality turned up a bit. Having watched a lot of historical footage taken of and during bombing raids during WW2, it would seem appropriate with regard to the balance of playability, of course.

Do you think enemy planes who attack you over their strats ought to get a free pass in a cloud of flying shrapnel?  That would be the effect of increasing puffy lethality, that and less defenders.

Leave the accuracy right where it is, increase the number of guns would work better IMO.

I think that was where I was headed. I didn't convey my thought well enough.  :uhoh

Personally, I don't think anything needs to be changed.  I like it just the way it is.  I see bombers taking damage the way it is plenty.  I want tl kill the bombers, the ack is just there to give it some historical recreation that adds to the game to make it feel more real.

Zener is correct..........if an enemy is nearby, you should also be susceptible to damage from the ack.

Currently, hovering over your own city has zero risk of friendly fire ack damage while it was a real hazard during the war.

It shouldn't actively fire at you but, if you're near enough to an opponent, then puffy should have as much chance of hitting you as hitting the enemy.

It used to be like this, but too many guys complained about being shot down by "friendly" flak when trying to attack bombers.  So HiTech changed it to where flak will stop firing on an enemy if a friendly is within 1k.

However, you can still get hit & hurt, the chance is just much smaller because of that 1k 'sanctuary' box.
