-1 No Way.  Why wouldn't you just drive to somebody's spawn and lay a load of mines right on it?   Then sit back and watch the fun.  Or better yet, drive up to the runway and lay them there.

For me, mines are like nukes. Sure they were real, but it’s not needed for the current style of gameplay we have. and Besides, if you add land mines u need sea mines as well. Then mine sweepers for sea and land.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Most of the issues with mines go away if minefields are built into the terrain rather than laid by players. The terrain editor's error checking routine could be set to flag fields laid over runways, SPs or water etc.

What minefields could bring to the game is a way for terrain designers to create choke points and so compress the GV action on their maps. Until recently the only way a designer could limit where a GV can go was to place water or really steep cliffs on the terrain. Bridges over rivers have created one sort of choke point away from SPs and map rooms but this only works on terrain at near sea level. Minefields would be another choke point tool and would work for terrain at any altitude. Also mine clearing tanks would add an additional tactical dimension to GV play.
