I did mention this quietly once already but everyone seemed to miss it: there is now an Elo rating system in the relevant arena.

Can I quote you on that at some point in the future?  :rofl
Yes you can lol. But it may not be used against men :old:

I suck in a fighter but I would get whopped by an Uber fighter jock for a chance to win a free months sub. Who knows might get lucky and actually win a fight or 2.

The issue is more likely to be around the fact that for some time now the duelling arena has typically been used by combatants trying to settle MA 'you picktard' type issues.  There is little friendship in that and no respect transfers between the players.

Natural then that people would assume a duelling arena with money at stake would bring out more of the negative.

I would love to do more duelling,  especially against better pilots .

For the ones who think this setup could bring about issues, I agree, after all, look at all the drama there was the last time the "ladder" competition ran. I dont see much good coming from it either.  :(

Not really, I'm thinking more in terms of what happened to the SDL.

I’m honestly disgusted.

I am as well. While the future may prove me incorrect, I will not play a game where actual money trades hands beyond a subscription.

edit: (I should explain my reasoning)

Money has a strange effect on people and very rarely is it positive. I do not want to immerse myself into a game where people take it too seriously. Frankly, we have individuals that do that already and money isn't involved (just ego bruising at this time).

Dude.  Over the years there have been dozens...hundreds...who have not required the lure of loot to take this game too seriously.

The nice thing is that the rest of us will not be sympathetic listeners to the whines of the put-your-money-where-your-mouth-is subset!

In all reality a lot of the top 1% rarely plays. I think I logged maybe 10 hours in the last 2 months?  I also don’t play at all over summer months as I have other activities. I actually see it working out for the average player more times than not. Don’t knock it till ya try it.

Top 1% :rofl

Based on the figures?

Its all relative, if you want to die of boredom doing the usual at the beginning of the month for 4 days taking 9 bases , landing 56 kills in one plane, spawn camping good for you.

I could do this this and be one of the 1% but I would rather eat American mustard of a wet sock.

Top 1%  :rofl

There are no pies stored in this plane overnight

I see what you did there!

In the relevant arena there's an EL... bah nevermind.

Free subs would be what I thought was going to be the prizes TBH.

I have never been interested in dueling for the sake of dueling.  Never got the point.  The best fights were never planned.  They just happened and both participants happened to be in the right place, the right planes, at the right time, with the same I am not gonna give in attitude and it was a great fight win or lose.  It was not a case of "and in this corner we have so and so weighing in at blah blah blah and in this corner we have so and so..."  Seems a bit contrived. This is not a slam, heck a lot of my buddies are duel devotees Joach, Squat, Junky, and several others.  My flying focus has always been focused towards training up skills used in Scenarios and FSO.  Stopping and dueling usually will get you killed in those arenas.  For me that's where it's at.  I can't see adding money to this really getting me interested in the  dueling end of the game any more than I am now.  I hope it does bring in some folks, but would really love to see them come in for the love of the genre and history.

Very strange how most seem to think this aimed at existing customers.

Two different schools of thought is all.

In one hand you have the crew that is asking “what is this adding our subtracting from my game experience?”

In the other hand some are asking “How is this going to draw flesh blood into the game and how is this going to bolster numbers in the constantly running MA?”.

Both are valid questions and kind of run together but I feel from what I have read is there seems to be a Doomsday mindset. Basically making a mountain out of a molehill.

I can't see how this is going to bring players in. Existing  players are going to eat new players alive far longer than it will take new players up to speed enough to compete.

Even average players will eat the new guys alive. Where is this player base that ypu can pull new players in from? Certainly not war thunder. The others have there own hard core players, more interested in engine cooling and start up procedures than fighting.

Even if you should bring in a ton of new players for the tournament's, will they both moving over to the Melee arena where the game needs the most help?

I hope your right and it all works out, I just don't see it.
