Game randomly minimizes which freezes VR
« on: January 15, 2018, 10:09:30 AM »
I have a random problem that while using VR the game minimizes which freezes the VR (hour glass) and I have to lift the goggles to left click on the game to bring it back.  I realize it may be something like another program or process  "grabbing" the screen.  Is there a way to find out why this happens or what causes it?  Left click on the minimized game on the task bar immediately brings it back (usually after I crashed of course).

:uhoh Mustang, in the All Things VR thread, we have discussed this for a long time. Seems that disabling the AUTO MODE SWAP cuts these instances down some. Also its about 60/40% rolling back FROM win Fall creators update helps some folk as well. :rock

Saw posts about freezing, not much about the game minimizing unless they did not realize that was the problem that caused the freeze.  Disabled the auto swap quite a while ago.  I will see if anything else comes up before rolling Windows back, then give that a try.

Yea, was hard to distinguish what FREEZE meant :O  Had pauses, skips and the BIG FREEZE(minimize). Used to get the 2 second freeze/hour glass thing as well. All I get now are the HARD/minimize freezes. Thats a Windows or program starting somewhere thing, I guess. Its been fairly smooth so far since Win big update. I had issues the first time it updated but this time went without a hitch :salute

Any ideas on this one?  I would particularly like to know if there is a way to tell why it minimized such as some type of log generated by windows 10 or the game itself.

My best guess is something in Windows, like an update, asserted itself as the primary application which minimized Aces High.

Could be that you have steam or something else running that is linked to your headset. I had this issue but got rid of it by disabling all other programs that access the VR headset (Oculus).

Windows Event Viewer, especially the Application events, may tell you something. If you see something like "XX updated successfully" you have found the culprit. http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-10/how-to-use-event-viewer-in-windows-10/

Windows Update also keeps score about updates. Defender updates can also be tracked. You'll find both in Settings.

I mean this in a nice and constructive way.  Skuzzy I know you hate w10 but it is not going away.  It would be more helpful to suggest a course of action instead of a sweeping statement condemning w10.  We depend on you for guidance.

I have no idea what you are talking about and baseless accusations like that are not helping anyone.

I did offer a possible cause.  My suggestion did not make any reference to any operating system.  If someone has any questions about the suggestion, then feel free to ask.

By the way, I have no emotional ties to any operating system.  I make suggestions based on known facts.  Nothing more.  There is no benefit for me to do otherwise.  Quite the opposite, actually.
