Vraciu, have you tried the trick of draining the residual voltage in the detector like I described up thread by holding down the test button till it dies before putting the new batteries in?

Also is it chirping only when the power is out or does it keep doing it after power is restored? I can check in one of my rentals what it does when the power goes off, in my house the smokes don't complain when the power is off, they are pretty old, hardwired battery back up. 25 years old actually.

I have ADT for home security, carbon monoxide and smoke detection. They recommend comming out and doing an annual inspection themselves (covered under my plan) rather than the customer changing out batteries themselves. It’s a dance switching out the batteries and entering in some settings into the monitor panel. I had carbon monoxide alarms keep beeping regardless of me putting in fresh batteries. The bigger problem is that my burglar alarm keeps going off everytime we have a local thunder storm (rattles the windows and BOOM!). This was a scare when I was on vacation in Colorado back during Christmas.

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. It may be a "feature"

Yep.  One man's feature is another man's bug.

Only chirping when the power is out.

When I was a kid we had some that were WINDUP type.  Man those things were LOUD.   But you didn't need power for them to work and they didn't chirp--ever.

Smash it with a hammer until it stops.  My smoke alarm will go off if I use my oven.  They are too sensitive.
Currently ignoring Vraciu as he is a whoopeeed retard.

CO detectors have a reputation in RV circles. They are commonly installed and after a while go bad. The sensor deteriorates and the unit has to be replaced. You can figure on about 5 years in a RV. I imagine in a house it may be the same or worse depending on how many people inside and how heavily the house is used. (cooking, smoking, aerosol products etc)

Mine too.  Ex wife thought that was the timer apparently.
