System requirements vs player numbers in area
« on: February 25, 2018, 04:37:18 AM »
Is there some correlation between min system requirements and player numbers in close vicinity? Is there a particular component that gets loaded more or does that have an effect on the whole system? When player numbers in close area go beyond a certain point my frame rates go very low. With some 60 bish, 60 knights and 80 rooks couple of days ago my frame rates dropped to about 10-15 at a base where rook ground and air attacked in numbers. No problems elsewhere in the arena with screen fps display going well beyond 80 at places.

I have always run pretty much min system PC so I had the same problem in AH2 too and often had to stay away from intense fighting.

In this case, it could be a combination of things.

1)  No way to know what state your system is in, which is critical.  The number of background processes, in particular.  With a dual core CPU your system is going to load up faster, with fewer processes than a quad core would do.

2)  What video resolution are you running the game at?  The 960 is a decent video card, but will struggle with any resolution passed 1920x1080.  The higher the resolution, the faster the video card is going to load up and slow down.

The DXDIAG output file might give some clues to help.

FOr AH3, the video card is the primary performance limiting device.  The CPU is next.

Not to forget that certain AMD processors were not able to use both/more than one core for running AH. Can't tell if yours falls in that category.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Skuzzy, Sir...

He is also stuck with having AH only being able to use 1 core of that 1st Generation AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core CPU....

It will still work, as he has already stated....

He very possibly has ways of improving his current system, similar to what Vraciu did....

He can possibly upgrade his GPU as well as his CPU

Hope this helps

I`m running the game at 1920x1080. Attached the DxDiag text.

One thing hurting you is the lack of a native sound card driver.  Your system is using the generic audio drivers from Microsoft, which were never intended to be used with games.

Thanks for the replies. I had problems with sound drivers and these seemed to be the only ones that work, but I will look into this again some time after Kuban area battle scenario is over.
