Why do I rarely get abuse in game?

There was guy last month who was accusing me of using cheating software, I squelched him :old: (my score is poo so he was just drunk or in a bad mood)

It takes me 5 mins to go into Services to close down programs before I log in, if I have a stalker in game I will squelch them, if I forget and he starts wittering it’s a nice reminder he is on and I block him.

I would rather know someone’s character in game from their behaviour so I can set my session accordingly.

I think the pros far out weigh the cons and It would be nice to have a 2 way squelch.  if I don't want to here another's  insults and vulgarities I certainly don't want them commenting on My commo or benefitting from My sitreps.

Very few get your sitreps as you’re the first person most people on your side block (due to your use of all caps).   Just something I noticed when I flew on your country.   Be careful what you wish for.   :salute

If you don't want to hear someone's insults or vulgarities, you shouldn't send those players insulting/vulgar PMs in the first place.  Just like the PMs you sent me the other night when you were too timid to dive down to engage from your 30k perch.

If you don't want people to send you insulting PMs, why do you do it yourself?  You are usually the instigator that results in people responding to your insulting PMs with insulting PMs of their own.

IIRC, the reason why we don't have a permanent squelch list isn't to give each side to "mend fences" as suggested by some posts in this thread but because of the possibility of an innocent player being permanently squelched.

For example, Player A is put on someone's permanent squelch list and then Player A quits the game.  Now, along comes new Player B that happens to select old Player A's handle and is automatically permanently squelched because the original Player A was put on someone's permanent squelch list.  That is why HiTech has not implemented a permanent squelch option to the game.

I only bring this up one last time because I reread the above in your original reply to my original post and missed something.

If Player A quits and the new Player B takes over old Player A's handle he doesn't get the old Player A's perk points because they get purged when Player A quits.  I assume any gun sights, favorite planes and favorite vehicles, favorite skins get purged as well when Player A quits.  Squadron membership, graphics and Audio and joystick settings all get purged when Player A quits.

Why wouldn't any squelch list created by Player A get purged as well?

I realize you can't answer that question because a decision like that is implemented by someone other than the players.  Again thanks for providing your interpretation of why my requested feature hasn't been implemented already.

The "name" is server side. When player "A" quits and the name is cleared it isn't setup to clear all squelches as well. Could it be set up they way? Sure, anything is possible, however Hitech has said it isn't going to happen. He may have more reason as to why he wont set it up, but there you have it, he said no. End of story........ for now.

Thanks for your explanation Fugitive.

As I said from the beginning this is the Wish List forum/section and this is the wish I chose to request.  If HiTech reads it and changes his mind and it happens swell, if it never happens then I haven't lost anything by asking.

Pragmatically you would squelch the UserID and every user would have a unique UserID.  Upon creation of a new account or changing a name some simple validation could be done to ensure the chosen name is not being used.

This is a very common point and it has been solved for 30 years in the programming world.  BTW, Hitech rocks as a coder so I suspect this is not the reason.

Just an FYI.  :salute

I would rather see HiTech use his resources to develop the game even further......more planes,gv's, ect.....and more terrains.
We can put a sticky note with the names of annoying players on our monitor, then squelch them by bringing up the roster every time we log on.
It only takes a few seconds. Right click on their call sign in the roster. It is pretty quick. The offending players do not know they were squelched.
Life goes on and so does the fun.

I believe players are given a unique ID each time they start a new sortie but isn't a permanent unique ID.
