Did you ever wonder how that guy managed to see you in the trees, and hit you with the first or second round when your rounds were all over the place? This post might help explain it.
When you're ready, come join us in the AvA on most Thursday nights at 8pm EST.

Col 3: If "Yes" and you've programed a controller wheel, you can use it to vary the reticile range in the main gun position. Otherwise you should always use the commander's position or a tank without this ability.

The elite tankers are so practiced that they usually use the commanders position to gun. But they must wait for you to get within their practice range, and that might put them at a disadvantage if you're using the best tools.
Consider the difficulty of using a T34's main gun position without knowledge of the range finder in the reticile. There are no reliable visual clues to where your round will land, and trying to use the reticile will always leave you frustrated.
One offline sortie in a Tiger or Panzer with a programed controller wheel set as Analog Sight Range, will convince you if you've never tried this. If you're using a CH joystick with a throttle on the base, that wheel is an obvious choice.
