Luftwaffe C-47's
« on: January 31, 2024, 10:00:27 PM »
Greebo, I stumbled on this thread over on the IL-2 forum. Seems that the Luftwaffe requisitioned DC-3's from airlines to use as military transport.

Is there anything there that would be eligible to be skinned for AH?

A number were captured from the Dutch KLM and put into Lufthansa service some were destroyed by allies on the ground later in the war. Interesting question though.

I think it would depend on the scale of Luftwaffe use and I am sceptical about the unsubstantiated claim of 400-500 in the IL2 thread. If there were indeed several squadrons of DC-3s flying around for an extended period then maybe, but if it was just a handful of requisitioned ex-airline aircraft then no. Wehrmacht T-34s are allowed as skins by HTC as there is good evidence they were used in the hundreds by the Germans but individual captured vehicles and aircraft are not.

Even if proof of widespread Luftwaffe DC-3 use was found I'd want to skin one with proper Luftwaffe markings (like the profile of NA+LC) rather than with civil codes like D-ARPD. I'd need a photo of such an aircraft if I were to do it as an MA skin.
