Reflections bug
« on: June 25, 2018, 02:31:40 AM »
There seems to be a positioning bug with reflections from water. Objects that are close by are reflected as if they were a lot further away. In this screenshot you can see the trees on the near bank of the river are reflected as if they were on the far bank and the bridge's reflection is almost completely hidden behind the bridge. This happens in both the TE and the game (DX11).

This can happen if you have multiple waters near a same position, and they are at different elevations.

I have all my rivers on a gentle slope from the source down to the sea. Levelling a river did fix the reflection problem so that's what I'll do to all the other rivers.

Before you make them level, let me make a small change that will better approximate the water height.

OK, I'll wait until you've made the change before altering the terrain.

Also what slope are you using? I assume you used the slope tool in the river properties to make a constant river grade.

Typically about 100 feet elevation change over a 9-10 mile long river. I just laid the river out, set the alts of the terrain at the beginning and end of the river and hit the "plow terrain from beginning to end" button.

I have uploaded the terrain with the sloped rivers to the server, its called Bearpit.

Btw normal river slope is in the range of 2.5 feet per mile.
The typicals are show in the properties page, and if you check set max grade it will auto slope your river to the pitch setting.

I saw that in the TE but at that slight a slope the rivers will only rise about 25 feet so I might as well just make them completely flat. I'll still hold off on doing so until you make you change.

For today's release I havn't come up with a fast optimized solution  yet of how to determine the closest water height.

I would simply leave in the abnormality at this point for me to do future work on.
