VKB MCG Slider/brake?
« on: September 29, 2018, 12:48:02 PM »
<S> All.

My mcg pro brake lever on my stick is seen by AH as an analog dial. Also, under the advanced check box it is seen by AH but pressing the lever does not show any input at all.

Has anyone been able to map it as "Brake Both" wheels and if so, how is it accomplished?

Thanks in advance for any help.

As long as AH sees the axis and has a command that can be mapped for it you can do that from within AH.

in AH/Options/Map Controllers/select your VKB stick/Scroll to the bottom of the list that shows the axii etc., and double click on Dial Max.

OK on the left, select "Flight".

Again, scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see the Wheel Brakes. Double click that.

You're all set. Now when you pull that lever all the way back you'll get both wheel brakes. I have mine set at minimum pull it toggles dive brakes and full pull is wheel brakes even tho I have toe brakes on my pedals.

You can actually map most everything from within AH. I've found about the only thing I can't are things like dot commands like setting salvo. I figured out the VKB software and have those things mapped too. The MCG-Pro grip is pretty awesome in it's programming capabilities. I particularly like the dual use hat that acts like a normal 8 way POV hat but with a .3 sec click on the center makes it another pair of axii. I use them for aileron and elevator trims.

Drano, have you figured out a way to disable that .3 second click hat from activating the 2ndary function?  I find I quite frequently bump that hat "in" accidentally which disables the primary use I have it programmed for, then I have to mess around hitting the hat button "in" again to reactivate it. I'd like to shut that right down so that it only functions as a normal hat, with no center push secondary function at all.  Is that possible with the GF2 rev B, or the original GF rev A as well (I have both)?

The only diff between the Rev A and Rev B is how the grip connects to the base, otherwise they're wired identically. My Rev A gunfighter base has the pins sticking up from the gimbal post. I guess they figured the pins would be better protected by putting them in the socket on the grip so they came out with Rev B versions. Makes sense I guess but that would only be a factor I'd think of you were swapping out grips a lot and being a neanderthal about it!

I don't think you can disable that dual hat's function. Maybe you can! That software is crazy configurable! Pretty sure what you CAN DO is to increase the delay on the center button press. I'm not at my PC just now but I think it was on the global tab of VKBDevconfig. There's a box called tempo or tempo time. The box has a number that represents the milliseconds of delay. Maybe try making it longer til you find something that works. I think I increased mine too a bit but I'm used to it now and switch all the time.

Rarely use it for views as I have TIR but always for the elevator and aileron trims. They get out of whack, a simple short press centers them again. For some reason my TIR will lose track that it's working with AH and stop working. It still sees my head ok but loses the game. That's where that hat comes in handy so I can quickly get my views back. Pinky button (up modifier) is a stretch for me tho.

You can disable it. Once I get to my computer I can post directions. Can't remember all of the tabs off the top of my head. It may be a few days though. If I recall correctly I had to leave the configuration open otherwise it would revert back to analog only on restart.

Well that might be a workaround for THAT problem but wouldn't that disable the rest of the profile too? Given, the VKB software is a lot get your head around, but I'd almost have to guess you could actually somehow change the configuration of that particular hat to a "normal" one. Heck you can make this stick do everything but read it seems like! The hats have several different configs available including one not supported by any current games!

I've just figured it out well enough to do what I need it to do. Advanced questions like that might be better explained by the head geeks on the VKB forums. The software guy is Alex Oz.

Thanks for the info Drano and you to flippz for responding.

Drano, your suggestion worked but I had an issue with them not allowing me to brake and turn to the right while on runway. Brakes would only turn left. I could however apply both brakes and track straight.

After checking vkb forum I went into the vkb configurator and mapped the slider/brake to act as a button when depressed 50%. The first 50% does nothing. Works well and I can taxi now with both left and right brake input when using the t-rudder pedals. I did not map the left and right wheel brakes in AH or the vkb configurator. AH uses differential braking automatically now when brakes are applied and peddles are depressed.

Thanks for the advice and getting me to try the configurator.      Bixby.

Would have told you before you did that to look closely at the AH config to make sure something else isn't operating your one brake. I have toe brakes on my pedals and they work fine otherwise but I can do a full pull on the brake lever and it will give me both brakes straight on.

If something is operating one brake in game its something in game, not in vkb.
