This looks interesting...

I understand why film buffs don't like colorization.  A film has been artistically designed to be presented a certain way.  However, for documentary footage, I feel it really adds to the experience.  It makes it seem much more immediate, like you are actually there.  The black and white grainy film always gave what you view a certain psychological distance.  IMHO.

Toxic, psychotic, self-aggrandizing drama queens simply aren't worth me spending my time on.

The only issue I have with colorization is the colors in any given scene are arbitrary and may not reflect what the scene actually looked like.

Any given shade of gray can be represented by many, many different colors.

Absolutely.  It can certainly be abused, and I've seen some poor examples.  Some of the TMC stuff I've seen was ghastly.  :O

I'm sure however that these guys probably did a fair amount of careful research on uniforms, vehicles and native foliage in the area.  It's probably not an unreasonable approximation.

Of course, black and white is even farther from what the scene actually looked like. And even color film is only an approximation.  It can't capture the full dynamic range of hue and shade that the human eye can.  Certainly not the resolution.

But technical issues aside, I always have found well done colorized historical footage intriguing.

Toxic, psychotic, self-aggrandizing drama queens simply aren't worth me spending my time on.

Peter Jackson is an absolute history nut, and he's big on accuracy. I wish you guys could see some of the ANZAC exhibits his team has done over here. Some of it was quite emotional, and they went for a giant sized exhibits which made it feel so much different than your usual exhibits. I guaranty they will have those colours super accurate.
