Shore Batterie upgrade
« on: October 07, 2018, 11:59:59 PM »
Love the new Battle ships on the new maps, but we need to update the Shore batteries. They are almost impossible to sink, short of bombers, and 1 volley from the 16 inch guns takes the Shore batteries down.

A 37mm flanking each side of the shore battery would be cool.......some 50 cal.

that would be pretty cool, I would like to see other items that were typically found around shore batteries. you know, barracks, fuel, ammo. I would also like to see an extended site arch (visual alert against CV's) in the batteries FOV when looking out at the ocean.

One idea would be to have the SB gun replaced with a 16 in gun instead. A lot of Shore batteries where of battle ship caliber.

Hi Folks.  lets discuss what It takes to KO a shore battery,  1 salvo of 16inch /50 caliber, each projectile weighing from 1900 to 2700 pounds. lets say heavy armor piercing rounds are used. 2700 lb x 3= 8100 lbs  of ords. I think It takes 3 salvos from the 8" cruiser guns to Ko one.  240 lb per projectile x 9  = 2160 lbs    25 rounds of 105 mm howitzer.  He weighing about 15 pounds per projectile.  175 lbs.      800 rounds of 20mm ammo.  about 4 oz. per round  that is 200 lb.    How many pounds of bombs does it take to knock one out?    As is stands, It seams that 1 salvo from a bb is fair.   maybe more concrete for the gun emplacements.

My math was wrong with the 105 mm howitzer,... It's 375pounds of projectiles to KO the shore battery.

At the very least, adjust the range finder on the Shore battery to see the BB farther out. :airplane:

The shore battery 8in gun has an 18 mile range(32000yds). The haze is set to 18 miles but, seeing things starts to gradient off visually against you around 16000yds just like haze in the real world. The 16in has a 22mile range but is visually limited to the same 18mile haze limits as the shore battery gunner. In the end it comes down to the gunner's skill in the 16in versus the gunner's skill in the 8in. Not all the time are there gunners in the shore battery while the BB gets off it's first salvos. This game is as much luck of the moment becasue of how many things are taking place at the same time as it is skill.

Might as well wish that BB guns cannot fire at a field until the first shore battery rounds have made contact with the BB. It's just fair after all to the little guy.
