Fighter Points

What factors affect Fighter Points score?  Aircraft type flown?  Aircraft type killed?  ENY?  Country population percent?  Others?

By "Fighter Points" I assume you mean the "Kill Points" for Fighter Mode on the score sheet?

Neither ENY, type population or anything else has an impact on that. It's essentially damage points you inflict on enemy planes (with one single additional point for the actual kill). The amount is only affected by your sortie ending: Landed x1, Ditched x0.75, Bailed x0.5, Captured x0.4, Killed or Discoed x0.25

That's why shooting down bombers usually gives you more Score Points: You can inflict more damage to them before they die.

How does the gun affect the damage points? Is there a difference killing with .303s or 40mm?

Is "overkill" (more damage than needed on the last hit) counted as points?

How does lag affect it?  While the death of the target I'd not yet received, do hits still counter (higher latency to allow score more points)?

Yes, in the portion of this chart put together by "BudGrey" you can see that the difference in damage done by the 303, 50cal, and 20mm are significant.

I dont think so. Ive hear/read that once critical damage is done no more is counted. This to make sure people following a dying plane to the ground and pumping rounds into it wont be able to steal the kill

Hits are calculated on your computer and then sent to the server, then sent to the targets computer. So damage done isnt effected by lag.

Thanks, the chart look interesting.

The question is about damage done vs damage points scored though. Let me try to explain;

If it takes x hits with 303s and y hits with 40mm to get the same amount of damage, does it score the same amount of points, too?

When a target is about to die, e.g. x-1 hits 303s in, and then a 40 mm hits. The target is dead in both caeses. But does the excessive damage of the 40mm score additional points or is that limited for the purpose of scoring?

While hits are computed on the shooters side, I think damage thresholds exceeded is computed on the server or shootees side. Can more points be scored on the shooters side while it has not yet received the message that the target is dead?

I guess there is.

Explanation:
There is definitely such an effect when you get damage score points for hitting/destroying objects, i.e. killing an SB with a 85mm gun yields much more score points (IIRC by a factor of ~20 or so) than doing the same with 0.50cals (M-16). Same when bombing objects, you get more score points for the same amount of destruction when using bigger bombs.
I just never got to test this for fighter score points (not as easy to do). Possibly it's there but not as pronounced because the weapons used are not as different in dealing out damage points than those used in gound combat/bombs.

Is "overkill" (more damage than needed on the last hit) counted as points?

Should not be, as no damage will be registered after a 'catastrophic failure'

I can't imagine this has an effect, but you'd have to ask HiTech. :)
