SAYS the guy that KNOWS what Heaven looks like! Sure, its all good till someone "POOPS" their suit :rofl Flying is great, IN something designed for it :uhoh Hey, at least the water is warmer :x than in your story :rock Hit a big wake once in my Bass Boat...at about 60mph....Came around a corner and Wake was right there, no time to slow down..caught some air and SMACK. Water is HARD, scared me to death- bent the steering wheel with my Knee...OUCH. Knocked the breath out of my partner, thought he had broke his back at first. Thankfully there was enough time to yell "Hold ON". What we get for trying to beat someone to a spot I guess :uhoh The bass werent there anyway...he fished 30 min and left..when we got there...they were hitting(on Idle rest of the trip).

In a 13' Checkmate with a 75hp Johnson on the back I ejected myself from the boat after hitting a rather large wash. I had braced my legs for the impact but went vertical out of the seat on hitting wash and the legs did the rest. Best to be out front where the water is calmer.

NOW Ya Tell ME!  :rofl  I WAS, thats the bad part! We put in at Dayton Boat Ramp,On Lake Chickamauga. Its in upper end of reservoir. We blasted off and its about a mile to end of Richland Creek where it joins Tn River. There was a HUGE House Boat that had just passed the mouth of the Creek, never even saw it  :furious. THE MOST HOLY CRAP event I had had on the water...until I ate a Skier's Rope...later same year. Got lucky his rope didnt hit front seat pedestal...saw this one soon enough to back off throttle. Nose came up and right under it went. Gave that idiot lots of room and was up fairly(TOO CLOSE) to a shear rock wall...nowhere at all to go but up :furious Then there was the time I snagged a Jet Skier with a Rattle Trap...THAT was funny :rofl

Speaking of Dayton, Ohio that is, going down the back straight the wind picked the boat up and pushed it 3-4 lanes to the left. Trimmed in and got some control back. Finished 3rd that day. Everyone thought I was going to blow over as none of the boat was touching the water, just the bottom of the skeg and some prop.

I can't imagine 100 on the water never mind 200.

I did over 70 in a Donzi sweet sixteen once and it was crazy. I remeber my eyes watered so much my hair was wet going straight back from my eyes over my ears. I didn't have goggles or glasses and it did not have a wind screen.

I always wore a Motor cycle Helmet with shield....after a Night Fishing Tourney during the May Fly Hatch  :x I had bug guts in my hair for 2 days...just WOULD NOT come out. After that...HELMET! Think it saved me a few months later...hit what I believe was a June bug at about 75mph. Would have been right between the eyes, it chipped the paint on the helmet :furious Even hit a bat once...seemed when using the ole spot light...they dont seem to see the boat :x Wasnt going too fast at night of coarse but it was a THUMP :devil

First time I took the Checkmate out the boat chine walked. The bottom had a flat surface about 6" wide on which the boat rode on. One had to balance the boat on the pad (that is what it was called) by using the steering wheel.  The boat always fell off to the right so a little left wheel was needed. If not caught the boat would bounce from gunnel to gunnel and eventually a big 'splash' would be the result.

1stpar3 try hitting some ducks. Friend and myself were out testing near dusk and he hit a flock of ducks at about 100mph. Blood, guts and blood all over him and the boat.

Not him but a similar boat

:aok Was gonna be me NEW response :salute COOTS, some folk here call them "J E S U S "(when they spook and start running in dark LOL)...water walkers! They are usually in big flocks and seems they can ONLY fly 4 inches above water and have no leg strength. I know some people eat them and they have a VERY OPEN limit per Duck season, then again I dont care much for Duck :uhoh
YES, My Bass Boat had a Plate like that as well. Probably about 8 inches just forward of Transom. Once you got her planed out and trimmed thats just about all the contact you had. My OutBoard had a Trim...cant remember what it was PROPERLY CALLED, for TURN TRIM. Its a small Aluminum/Zinc Circle with a "SKEG"-Angled post hanging down. So if turning right was too hard..just twist it to the left type deal. I never had to mess with this really. UNTIL the last boat I had. EVERY TIME I trailered to AL, mine would disappear :uhoh (NO not trailer Park---trailer Boat :rofl). Dont know if it was the rougher roads or some idiot collected them. Anyway, when it was attached it held in place the Water Filter for motor cooling. So I noticed it missing, after about the 3rd time this happened MY FRIEND/Fishing Partner decides to PERMANENTLY FIX IT   Whats a little LOK-TITE.....Only he didnt pay attention to where that Steering trim post was. Talk about hard to turn left, it was near impossible at speeds above 30mph. Imagine my dismay when I went to adjust it :furious   :rofl HEY, he COULD FISH...his only saving grace too :devil

It was Mallards he hit.

13' Checkmate, 2cd seat removed as that is where the gas tank went

One had to keep the bow up in turns as the Checkmates were notorious for hooking if the bow got too low.

I have seen a few boats like the one in photo. Always thought to myself "Might as well put a 200 Merc on a Jon Boat. No trolling motor? Eh, surprised it will float with that chunk of motor on it." I have a Bass Tracker now. Aluminum TX-185....its only a 50hp....some times I still miss my Norris Craft---was 200hp and would really SCOOT :x

Sometimes they didn't. The 13' Excaliber sank after it tossed me out. Was going over backwards but when the top of the engine hit the water it rotated forward and landed upright. Wave action gradually over the stern gradually filled the boat with water. It should be noted that the 'FE' class didn't have any motor trim.

Interesting videos of offshore racing circa 1967.

The shapes of the hulls are awesome.

This hydroplane is totally sweet.

It's the last "jones" design and runs a under 1 liter sunbeam Imp engine that the guy has converted to modern engine management and alcohol injection.

Very impressive.

I meant to say "last wooden jones design" as it left the shop in 1980.

Nice icepac. The smaller boats can be just as much fun as the big boats and sometimes even more exciting as seen and his comment at the end of the video.
