Minimal Support for GV in Mission Editor
« on: January 11, 2019, 11:44:11 AM »

I understand the difficulties of AI path finding and obstacle avoidance for GV missions.  However, I think a minimal amount of support could be provided much simpler.

If the Mission Editor could have a toggle to display trees like the TE does, then the mission designer could map out a static route that avoids obstacles.  The AI would only operate the shooting at any near by enemy.   The AI however would always follow the pre-defined path. (Note: there is a toggle for view "terrain detail" in the MisEd.  Not sure what it does, but it doesn't make trees visible.)

The GV route could have segments like cruise , patrol, attack, that mirror similar segments for aircraft  in controlling how aggressive they are a engaging enemy targets (GV or AC).

Naval vessels could piggyback off the same capability.

This would open up a lot of possibilities for Naval/GV/AC missions.

This is for offline staged missions against AI.

lol, wow.  ok.

Not true in any shape or form.  I've been involved in many impromptu/organic "missions" to resupply towns, bases, strat.  And, same for attacking... I've also participating in these types of "missions" to help take a town or kill a base, etc.  Can you elaborate further please lunaticfringe?

Careful..... he is already on the fringe. All we need is for someone to set him off again. Last time he went to a crowded mall with a extended bag of cotton balls..... it was horrible.
