MPA Request (a quickie)
« on: January 20, 2019, 12:12:39 PM »
Evening all, hope you are all well. Just a passing visit to the forum for a fleeting request…

While I appreciate the main focus of work and high hopes might be now going into WoP, and this was likely the reason for the change in the first place; I’d like to request the Match Play Arena either gets its duelling queue back or else you restore the combined furball lake / Duelling Arena we used to have in AH2.

The flight model, participating players (that I’ve met) and appeal of Wop is hardly going to be compromised by having a duelling queue in the MPA of AH. I get the impression they either aren’t aware of AH, are aware but it doesn’t appeal, or have the impression there’s nothing F2P in AH.

As it stands now those old die-hard duellers have - for the first time as far as I'm aware - nowhere in Aces High to duel. Privately-hosted arenas just don’t practically work (take it from someone who tried to run one most week-days for three months) and the airspawns at PT corner are too random and of course in a FFA area to get a decent merge.

I know as old AH players we aren’t as particularly valued as possible new customers, but as the arena is set up right now you might as well remove it. Throw us a bone Dale, give us back somewhere to duel. If the server space is there already…

I absolutely second this!

We need somewhere to get a quick fight, I would recommend getting rid of the que system and go for old AH2 DA furball lake and canyons. I know the good old DA is deeply missed by numerous players, and I know alot of players that quit when AH2 became AH3 did so because the old DA playground was ruined. Why break something that Works perfectly? Atleast try to fix it again for the few of us that are still around, and who knows.. Maybe the Word will spread and some old DA'ers might return also?!

Furball lake had a mostly friendly, dogfight-centric culture in our timezone at least. Big contrast to the result-driven MA. A lot of new players came through the lake.

Be happy with either and since both have been previously used the requested change is presumably arena config only?

Nothing but an oversight, I just need to setup some new configuration options in the arena.

Match is working as before plus 1 drone in free for all.

Also the ques all work but until this weeks patch they are displaying 1 que off i.e. 2v2 is really 1v1 when you click 1v1.

Many thanks for fixing the queue. I haven’t had an opportunity to test it as I didn’t see any fellow duellers yet.

At PT corner I think having the drone is a game changer. There is now something to do even if you are alone. Presently trying to work out how they ‘think’. They are more professional than the drones in WoP. I suspect they aren’t constrained by exactly the same flight model as human players? I saw a Tempest, 190D-9 and an Me262 sustain 3G in a flat turn on the deck. Additionally (or hence) their energy loss in the vert didn't seem quite right. I have not so-far observed a human player being able to do that. They are regardless a fantastic way to de-rust and also to practice gunnery. Considerably more challenging than the offline drones. One of my best turn fights was with a Lancaster who was also gunning the whole time. Poor old AI4 got murdered but dare I say it: better ACM than 95% of the MA.

Also out of interest: fighting a drone attracted several other players, two of whom I’ve only ever seen in WoP. One didn’t stay so long - he was trying to BnZ higher pL planes in his P-40, but the other did give AH a good go. Perhaps this is an unexpected outcome.

Could potentially build on this new feature, if there is any wish / capacity to expand?

P.S. There's a human player who has named himself AI9.  :frown:
