You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

IMO Radar in the MA is a necessary evil.  When we first got the pinpoint radar I hated it.  After a while I got used to it and began to understand why it was necessary.  During WWII planes had radios (wow huh  ).  Ground controllers, observers, and other friendly planes could radio friendly fighters the course and speed of enemy aircraft.  Now obviously they would not know exactly where the enemy planes were, but in the MA play balance allowances must be made.

Having radar also adds an important strategic target that can create serious chaos if destroyed.  We also have the ability to fly under radar.

My opinion is to remove counters for tanks and for planes below radar.  Other than that, I don't have a problem with the current system.  (HA is another story though.   )

Hi all

Yeah, I agree with Hangtime, radar is appropriate to the MA.  I already hear enough of people complaining that they can't find a fight and with the inflight dar switched off if will be even more difficult.  Some players maybe tempted to fly from an airfield further away to get higher alt in case they get bounced en-route.  Bombers on the other hand will have the world as their oyster - you could attack/capture an airfield right next to nme HQ with a lot more ease.

Also all the newbie pilots... would they be put off by all of this, so much as to not sign up?

I think keep it for SEA.

Just my 2 cents...

No radar inflight is a good idea, it would help buffs and stop fighters homing in with laser sidewinder-like accuracy and instead make fighters rely on their SA and communication with someone on the ground operating the radar.

The squad I used to belong to had one guy on a squad night sit permanently on radar (unless he wanted a break and was relieved by someone) and co-ordinate the whole squad. That was in WB with a per hour charge so there should be no complaints in AH on flat rate. The truly great squads would soon be seen as they used their communication and co-ordination skills to get results.

Yup, I enjoyed that duty as well, but my Visa didn't...AH is flat rate, as you said, NP here.

Gameplay vs Historical question again.

Radar bars (Germans had a clue from the moment formations left England) and field radar only within a certain range would be historical, would it not?

Gameplay would be as  it is now, to help newbies 'find the fight'.

So, historical arena would solve ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS!!

Maybe a less-than-accurate radar?
In Real Life(tm) there was a fair degree of uncertainty.

How about the bars stay (but I'd like them a bit smaller), and how about only around 70% of the planes are mapped for the duration of their mission ... (pick a figure).

Would add to that neat feeling when the radar goes down of searching and weaving, calling in sightings etc.

Hmmmm.. come to think of it; the current SEA arena is now so eqipped. No dots. Only bars.

Now if we can get the icons fixed in SEA; then we'd have heaven, yes; and all of us would fly there instead of MA... Right?

So.. vote this issue by where you fly.. if you want no in flight dar info; go fly in the SEA arena. It's already set up that way.

Unless of course, this is one of those 'noisy minority' issue things... and the majority already votes its prefrence by flying in the main.
