Around half the gun-nosed A-20Gs made were sent to the Soviet Union. This was despite the VVS quickly finding out that German flak made low level daylight attacks far too costly with such a large plane. So most of their Gs were adapted into either level bombers or torpedo bombers. Usually this involved removing the four nose guns and adding some glazing for a navigator or bomb aimer position there. This A-20G though kept its guns and had a navigator position behind the pilot. It was used by by the 27th Long Range Intruder Regiment, who operated at night and often targeted Luftwaffe night fighters and their bases. Some of their A-20Gs had four cannons mounted obliquely down and forward in the bomb bay for ground strafing.
