This Yak-7B flew with the 15th Fighter Regiment (15 IAP) in the Kuban area during April 1943. The 15th Regiment was one of the six fighter regiments that formed the 3rd Fighter Air Corps (3 IAK), a "fire brigade" unit that was transferred to whatever area of the front more fighter cover was needed. 3 IAK aircraft carried a distinctive winged star emblem on the nose.
