Vermillion: Would you mind?
« on: September 28, 2000, 12:54:00 PM »
After all this fuss about your killer Med terrain I went and dloaded the zip [cmed-092.zip]. All these show-off a/c are murdering my FR, so would you mind removing them? I'd like to get my hands on the SEA Med, but as you said HTC owns it.

Thanks

flakbait, look at the difference between the 0.92 version and 1.00

I removed 100% of the aircraft at large airfields, 66% at medium airfields, and 50% of the at small airfields.

In particular I cut out most of the B17s which were the biggest frame rate killers.

Are you still seeing FR problems in the 1.00 version? What kind of system are you running?

PIII-550 with 32meg Ultra TNT2:
FR when taking off with 5 other bombers at A38 last night was 6 FPS..

Other than that, its beautiful!

Ummm Rip....

A38 if I remember right is Algiers right? Which is a Large airfield?

There aren't any scenery aircraft at large airfields

And my large airfields have the same object/poly counts as the standard arena large airfields (ala A1 in the MA), its just the positioning of them that is different.

About the only way to fix this, is to make all airfields in the arena the small airfield, but that makes it pretty boring.

Sorry for the tone of the post, it just feels like its a catch-22 situation. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Some people are clamoring for more targets/objects, and others want less for better FR's.

The planes in the game aren't well suited for use as terrain objects.  We do have to make more terrain objects and we'll look into making some planes and vehicles that are designed for this purpose.

Verm, I don't have a pay account so I can't get into the SEA. Another guy posted that he's got a H2H only account, like me, and would like to get a copy of 1.0. As HiTech said "Welcome to the life of a designer". When you make something that kicks ass, everybody wants a copy.

Flakbait, when I get home, I will email you a "blessed" copy of the Terrain, or if your email won't accept a DL that large, setup a download for you on my website.
