APDrone and Nebraska Flooding
« on: March 29, 2019, 09:09:46 AM »
I'm not sure if this has been posted. Drone lives in Nebraska and the flooding is horrific. I heard that 60+ of the counties are under declared emergency.

Drone, I pray that you and your family are safe.

Thanks, Soze.  We're ok where I am.. a mile or two west and all around, not so much.

The farmers are taking a huge hit.. I think I saw an estimated million calves perished.

Major roads and bridges are washed out.. Levies broke, flooding lots of housing in nearby towns.. and it's not over.

This winter was really brutal. With all the snow and removal, insane pothole problems and now the floods, the states road maint budget is decimated.

Where the flood waters receded, it dumped tons of sand and corn stalks like disbursed mulch all over the place.  On the sandbars of the Platte river, there are abandoned trees dropped by the waters.

A lot of damage was caused by slabs of ice that ripped through trees and buildings along the rivers banks.. much like surface glaciers, I would imagine.

If you want to peruse a healthy selection of pictures and videos, visit Nebraska Through the Lens on Facebook.  The images are insane.

That's good to hear Drone! Still though, keep safe and aware.

I heard that too about the million calves. There's going to be a huge economic hit.

Good to hear drone, my son is stationed at Offutt AFB.  The hangar where he works was at the south end and his workspace had between 6 to 8 feet of water in it.  They spent the night before towing the aircraft and moving as much equipment as possible.  Said it would probably be months before they can get back to their original work area.

I feel for those flooded. We flooded during hurricane Harvey's 51.88 inches of rain in a short time span. We were in our RV in the driveway for over a year before we could move back in.

I remember many years ago the gambling boat on the Missouri River up in Sioux City, IA.  The winter melting caused the river to rise very high from all the tributaries.  Normally, you would walk down the 40 foot boarding ramp from the land to the docked barge where the 3 story boat was attached.  For several weeks, you actually walked up the ramp to the barge.  Coast Guard gave the OK for people to be there.

Along the Missouri River on both sides, there were plenty of spots that the water rose above the banks spilling onto the housing and farmland up to a quarte of a mile.  The weather people had calculated for every minute of water flowing down river equaled 144,000 basketballs.  That's a lot of balls.
