Devil505 has requested some El Alamein skins for next month's FSO:-
Spitfires only began appearing in the desert theatre in mid 1942 due to the need to equip them with an effective air filter. This aircraft was one of the first to arrive and was assigned to Sgt Charles Samouelle of 92 Squadron. On 19th August in a dogfight against a mixed formation of C.202s and Bf 109s near El Alamein Samouelle shot down one 109 and damaged another before his own plane was hit. He was able to belly land his damaged plane next to the road to Alexandria from where it was recovered, repaired and brought back into service. Charles Samouelle served in 41, 92 and 130 Squadrons, rose through the ranks to Wing Commander and ended the war with 11 kills and a DFC.
