This Ju-88A-1 was part of KG77's 5th squadron during the battle of Britain and featured formation leader bars on its wing and tail. KG77 got a reputation as a "hard luck" outfit, it started the battle flying Dornier 17s but after heavy losses over England was sent back to Germany to re-equip with Ju-88s. A rushed training program resulted in a number of fatal accidents but KG77 arrived back in France just in time for the Luftwaffe's switch to daytime raids on London. This didn't go well for KG77, on the 18th September KG77 Ju-88s were intercepted by around 100 RAF fighters and lost nine aircraft and this was repeated on the 27th they lost another twelve. Shortly after this the Luftwaffe switched to night attacks.
