In one of the videos around of this plane, the pilot said that the Merlins had 18 to 1900 HP, a fair bit more than the standard P51D Merlin. Anyone know how this affected performance, especially top speed at various altitudes, compared to the later Allison motors?
I have to point out that more recent research indicates that every mission flown by the P-51D out of Europe used 150 octane fuel and could hit 75" of manifold. Not too long ago I saw a video on YT where one of the racers said they hit 150" of manifold today. That's just downright terrifying.
