Terrain grid, Clipboard grid and map size
« on: May 29, 2001, 07:40:00 PM »
OK - first thing to clear up - a terrain is 512 X 512 miles but the clipboard grid (sectors) are 25 X 25 miles - 20 times 25 is 500.. so which sides of the map have the spare 12 miles, or put another way, where is the datum point to tie the grid to the terrain (top right corner? center??) It is obviously important so that the sector counters work properly.
So to move on - if you build a terrain which is for use on a small scale so uses the small clipboard map sizes how do you allign the grid to the map??

I am trying out AKWabbits bmp utility which looks veryy good so ideas based on that tool would be helpful

Thanks

Sparks in the maps dir of the terrains there are grids which match the sector counters for most sizes.

Thanks Hitech

Found them and my first clip map lined up with the TE grid to about 3 or 4  miles on first attempt - fiddling got it down to about 1/2 mile - good enough.

One question though - is there any way of making those BMP's transparent with grey lines and text so I can just paste them on top of a created BMP ??  Or does everyone do it a different way??  I ended up finding the pixel locations of each of the gridlines and dawing them on my clip map in the same places - worked OK but time consuming.

Thanks

You can in windows paint program.

Open the file with paint.  Select what ever you want to copy or move and click on the bottom left side box (sorry don't know what its called?) it will erase anything white so now you can move your grid over the map.

THIS IS PAINTS HELP

"To specify transparent or opaque drawing

To specify transparent drawing, click the Image menu, and then clear the check mark next to Draw Opaque. This specifies that the existing picture will show through your selection and that the background color of the selection will not appear.
To specify opaque drawing, click Draw Opaque. This specifies that your selection will cover the existing picture, using the foreground and background colors of the selected object."
