It seems that everybody thinks that 10 min of climbing out would turn off all the possible new players.

I for one am more interested in a "simulation" then an arcade game. Surely I can't be the only one?

I think the modern crop of scenarios is, for most people, fast enough and with enough action.

The bigger problem we have is that most players in melee aren't on the message board and don't know anything about any special events.

It has to be players reaching out individually to other players to invite them to try it out, explain what it's about, etc.

ok  seriously.  YES YES YES the 10 minute climb out turns them off.  I have been flying since AW in 1994 and the pregnant pause before action in scenarios bores me so much I will never again try them, and I am a fan of AH.  Imagine how bad it would be for a noob.

The mantra of the day is instant action instant respawn.  You can wish it was not so but the fact is that the kids earning 500k a year playing games are doing it in instant action instant respawn games.

I would prefer AH to take on a model akin to World of Warships where I get a fight on a regular basis.  I think it is headed that way with the AI in the Match Play arena but OMG how bad is that arena as an introduction to AH?   OMG if a new player tries that and encounters B24's out turning spits...hmmmm do you really expect them to stay?

All I have to offer

I agree, that arena is pretty fun as is, and a step in the right direction, until you start getting dove on by buffs, rv8s and storches.

Then its just disappointing.

You can, and I talked it over with scenario players, but they thought even with delay, it would not be good.

There are locations of units that can still be useful even if the information is old, as well as radio traffic with plans and strategies.

Well for Scenarios/FSO I can understand not streaming at all, for the reasons you stated.  But for general game play, it shouldn't as much of an issue.  The thing is, if someone is to stream AH, it would be best to stream MA game play over everything else since this is where the "meat" of the game happens to be.  Post a link to youtube to watch Scenario/FSO after it is done, posting those links in twitch to point folks towards that.  Just note that it would be best to post an entire video in this case as editing to show only the action will be misleading.  That is the problem with the idea of only posting action, folks will think that is what happens when in reality it could be 20m before you get to that point.  Get an unlucky pilot snipe, and you get the picture...

I've had plenty of people join my streams and they leave within 5 minutes because there is nothing happening except the good 'ol climb out or they have just missed the action and I'm RTB.

You're not the only one, but we're far and few between.  And that's the problem.  Making it popular IMO means making it into something completely different from what it is.

Fess is not wrong.  Even the MA is too slow for most gamers/twitch viewers.

It would be worth while to create videos that balance out the "boring" with the "action" and present them as talking streams and promo videos for your respective channels and then slowly integrate them in to the full streams.

I don't exactly understand how that would work?  You might draw them in, but once they see a full stream, unless you're a good enough talker to entertain them fully during slow times I just don't see people sticking around.

That's the million dollar question, isn't it? It may take some creativity but it's not impossible. There are a million things that you can discuss during these slow periods of flight. You can also tailor the streams for fast pace players, those that love the pure team work aspect of gaming and even for those that are lone wolf gamer types. You just have to step outside what you feel is value added game play and focus on the different types of gamers and how they want to play.

One of the many reasons why I have tried to encourage maps with closer bases. Having to fly a sector to a fight and back just takes too much time, especially during off hours when only you are fighting 2-4 guys maybe. Thats another story though.

Could've sworn one could put a delay on the stream to help with the stream sniping.  :headscratch:
Putting a delay on kind of works but as soon as you look at the clip board you are screwed. They will see the plane type ur in and know which airfield you came from

My friends who are Avid twitch viewers have a hard time watching Flight sim streams that I put out (not just AH) and the climb out to fights in any flight sim is boring. I try to keep it entertaining by talking to chat and stuff, but having to put a big delay on stream makes it kinda suck to chat with.

Streaming 1v1’s and KOTH would be the best high action gameplay for twitch or mixer

You are not the only one...... If AH keeps moving toward "arcade game" I will have to give it up after all these years and go IL-2 full time.
