If there was one thing I'd change about VR it'd be the option to scale the views as with the TIR I switched from. 1:1 is cool but it's quite an effort craning around for an hours at a time session.

I used to have this before offical VR support came to AH (using glovepie). I requested that feature from HT ages ago when he first started to build in VR.

VR is the way to go - flying without it might put you at a disadvantage

1:1 is cool but it's quite an effort craning around for an hours at a time session. Might not be bad if I were standing but from the seated position it's tough for extended periods even in an office chair.

After experimenting with many chairs, stools, ect... I found that my LazyBoy recliner in the fully kicked back position with feet up is the Bees Knees.. to get the positioning right, I will find my (dentist chair) comfy spot, then pause the game by hitting the oculus menu button. Then while paused I hit the "Reset tracking" and BOOM!! I am back in perfect alignment inside the cockpit with crosshair, my left and right elbows resting comfortably on the pillowy arm rest, hands at the waist near Johnsonland and in perfect position to grab the stick with an almost "Thumb-forefinger" easy grip, my head resting and in great position to look up and back without strain.. 4 to 5 hour sessions are a breeze... try it!

Yeah but again you're using the touch controllers to fly with. The hands were cool IMO for about twenty minutes! I'd agree with FLS that if forced to use them that would be a deal breaker. I have way too much invested in my hotas controllers to ditch them for those little toys! 

I really don't have problems tracking with the Rift S. I extend FOV with a hat switch, which works. I think that if TIR has one thing over it is the ability to tweak the curves of each axis so you don't have to move your head quite so much. It'd be nice if that could be an option for games like flight or racing sims where you're generally seated.

Making that transition insofar as immersion goes takes very little time. When I went from the early days where we only had a hat switch to look around to my first head tracker it took some getting used to. But after a while you don't even notice it. Same rules I'm finding apply going from TIR to VR.

Thats a great bunch of pilots flying in VR!!! It will be nice sometime to organize a VR vs    Non-VR battle sometime and see how it turns out.. I see that I am just about the only one loving the realism that the touch controllers provide.
I know you guys think im looney to choose touch controllers over my gazillion dollar HOTAS and pedals (that I still use for Ace Combat and IL2) but for AH III and WOP, the boys at Hitech have nearly perfected it.
In a sense of relative comparison to the flight control systems of late '30s, early 40's aircraft, the touch controllers offer me a more realistic representation of those controls. Flying a bird back then was kind of like driving a '76 Town car with a good bit of play in the steering.
The HOTAS setup is a precision instrument designed for todays supersonic jets... yes, the HOTAS gives you a bit of an advantage over the realistic sloppy stick feel of the touch controllers but Im ok with it.. It gives me that much more excitement if and when I shoot you down with my handicap.. 😉
Anyway, thanks everyone for chiming in and providing information for others to become informed about the VR experience in this awesome game..

One Final Note.. I've played IL2 for a long time and recently their VR supported version, played War Thunders VR version, World of Aircraft, VTOL, Worlds at War as well as every other VR air combat game I can find and hands down, HighTech Creations has blown them all away!, Leaps and Bounds ahead of the rest and for me, its the touch controllers that puts them ahead of the rest.. (even with the controller lockout bug on yoked aircraft)..

Sam ya gotta put those touch controllers down. They're still working out bugs with their tracking and let's be clear about this---that's an OCULUS issue. NOT a HTC issue. You HAVE to know this if you've been paying any attention to the last several updates. So don't be looking for Hitech to be straightening that out, it's on their end. The game can only make use of what the controllers --any controllers for that matter --send it. That said I don't get at all the idea it adds to immersion. Dude if you're flying around looking at how cool your hands look (and bright blue hands don't look all that cool,btw) that's likely part of why you're getting killed. The immersion is in the headset bro! It's how you can look around the "world". That's where it's at. And if you're not doing that --yer gonna git kilt!

Oh and stop flip flopping from WOP and AH. The flight models are waaaay too different. It's just messing you up further.

PC Info - GPU - Geforce RTX 2070, CPU Core i7 7700k, 16gb RAM,


Huge step up from the HTC Vive to the Valve Index.  much higher resolution, clear crisp image. Much larger filed of view and "sweet spot."

Don’t know if anyone still care but just saw the topic.

Headsets: Valve Index and Pimax 5k+
Computer: i9 9900k, 1080ti, 32GB ddr4 3200, all SSD storage
Controls: just canned my trusty Logitech G940 FFB in favor of a VR cockpit setup with MFG Crosswind pedals, VKB Gunfighter III with long extension, and a Warthog throttle.

I will never be able to go back to a monitor after getting into VR flying, having everything in 3D and where it’s supposed to be when you look around is life changing. When Pimax comes out with the 8KX (and it works, and they actually ship the thing), I give up actual reality and just live in the matrix.... :cheesy:

How hard was it to configure your PiMax, and is it worth it compared to the alternatives?

The Pimax is an ongoing project. The software is getting better, at first it was an enigma but the latest release works pretty well in the default values. Same can be said for the firmware. It’s taken them two years to get it working but now it’s finically usable. I also had to 3D print connectors to use my old HTC Vive audio strap with it because two years later I’m still waiting on the audio strap they promised. If you like to tinker and are good with computers, it’s great having the huger widescreen effect. If you look at your wing you can see the tail and the nose at the same time.

All that being said, I recommend the Valve index because it works great  out of the box, it’s well built, and it’s easy to setup and get working
