"Pay Off" was the P-38L of Lt. N. M. Jarboe of the 36th Fighter Squadron while based at Ie Shima in 1945. As part of the 8th Fighter Group this squadron flew P-39s in New Guinea from 1942 before transitioning to P-38s in the Philippines in 1944. On Ie Shima the squadron repainted their aircraft with white-bordered black anti-glare panels and wing stripes.
