Brooke a significant number of Razorbacks survived the war in combat including the D11.  The Jug had one of the lowest if not the lowest loss rate of any fighter/fighter bomber of the war.

Their loss rate was 0.7 percent in the ETO, which was matched against the Luftwaffe, not the significantly out classed IJN and IJA.  Their K/D in the ETO was 4.6 :1. A great accomplishment considering they went up against the best LW had to offer and along with the early 38s were first to see combat in that time frame eliminating the majority of the LWs' top aces.  The 56th started out by flying the C model.

Now I'm just suggesting that as Nef said in an earlier post there are holes in development which included paddle props.  I like the D25 but the D40 is faster under wep.  Alas, they were a bit to late to participate in this time frame.

About 200 fpm difference at lower alts.

I make that about a 300 fpm difference (granted, I was never the best in math).  I think that's about a 10% better climb rate, which is nothing to sniff at in a mortal moment.

Out of the thousand scenario fights I've gotten into over the years, I don't remember even one where the difference between me losing and winning was 10% more climb rate.

Our climb rate is decent.  But at the altitudes we'll be fighting at, even if we had 10% more, we aren't going to be climbing away from 109's or D-9's.

Anyway, since we're using the plane types that were there, no D-40's -- or M's, or N's.

We'll be in D-25's.

I'm fine with it.

I'm flying a P-47D-25 myself, and eager to take it to Jerry.  :aok

It is a man's plane!  For real men, who fly in a manly fashion!  For men who would be lumberjacks or race-car drivers if not flying P-47's for the side of goodness and rightness!  :aok

Oldman, are you going to fly a P-47 in the glorious and historic fight for the fate of Europe?

Would love to.  But regret that I am never able to plan that far ahead.

That's why I put in "but at the altitudes we'll be fighting at."

This battle will have most of its fighting at mid-low alts.

It will be great and glorious!  :aok
