The Stuka group Sturzkampfgeschwader 1 flew extensively in the Polish and French campaigns, then later in the Battle of Britain, Malta, North Africa and the Easter Front. This aircraft of 8./StG1 was based near Leningrad in the winter of 1942/43 and featured a roughly-applied and fairly worn coat of whitewash paint as winter camouflage.
