Why would you cross them and not just step them from inside nearest to outside farthest?

It's a personal preference, I suppose. For me, converging your guns to one specific range supposes saddling up your opponent at that specific range, consistently, to do max damage. If that works, its all well and good. Cross-convergence gives you a fair amount of damage at long range (considering closure, as well) that works for a range span (say 550-600 for an six gun platform). On top of that you get 'half convergence' at really close range (again, for an six gun platform that would be three guns converging at 200 on one side and three converging on the other - about ten feet apart from each other). It kinda gives you two convergences at once.

I'm not a great pretend WWII pilot so you might not want to go by me. Personal preference is ... well ... personal. I'm not the only player that's tried this in the past but I was just wondering if I'm the last soul in this game that still does. It wasn't being mentioned. :)

Nobody's mention cross-convergence or its merits or lack of, yet.

Read an interview with a Tuskegee pilot and that's how he mentioned he had his convergence points set at.

Read this one about stepping, like I was mentioning but haven't found anything on crossing:

Some pilots preferred more than one point of convergence. In 1944 operating out of England, American Lieutenant Urban "Ben" Drew set the .50 in guns of his North American P-51 Mustang "Detroit Miss" to converge at three points: 600 ft (180 m), 750 ft (230 m) and 900 ft (270 m), with the inboard guns aimed closer and the outboard guns farther away. Drew felt that this gave him a suitable concentration of fire over a deeper envelope of engagement distance

Also found this:

A very close convergence point proved devastatingly effective for some pilots. The highest scoring fighter pilot in the world, German Major Erich Hartmann, set the wing guns (later cannon) of his Bf 109 to converge at 50 m (160 ft) because of his preference for waiting to attack until very near his opponent.

Close to 87% of my kills are at 0 alt.

Depending on trees of course.

Well, looks like I'm in good company then.  :salute

I had my 190A8 @ 550 for all guns, most of my kills was 400-600 yards, many of them bombers.
My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

Convergence isn't an 'issue', its a preference.  Granted, a P-38 doesn't have it, really. :D
