Useful reference for you skinners?
« on: February 27, 2021, 02:50:08 PM »
I ran across a copy of this book : https://www.amazon.com/Real-Colors-WW-II-Aircraft/dp/B07PX3XX3R

It seems quite comprehensive, and has color cards for each paint scheme (my copy is a PDF, so easy to use the eyedropper tool on to get the color values)

It's not cheap is the only issue!

It would only be useful for making sure a color looks more or less accurate in the game engine, but If I were to make a RLM color chart of what I use in GIMP similar to what is in that screenshot, a few colors will look very different.

Great find, Steel07.

I've often wondered if we should put together a color reference chart for AH3 skinners.   Showing the real life color name, the color sample, and then a sample of the shade needed in AH3 to reproduce.   But then I wonder, there are so few skinners maybe its not worth it?

Could be a helpful skinning section sticky along with Greebo's tutorials though.

Even with the same rgb values calibrated to the ah3 engine the results will still vary wildly based on the display screen being used.

The major weak spots of white and grey and their rgb ah3 darkened counterparts are probably the most useful of conversion charts as devil posted in another thread.

It is a major obstacle in the graphics engine that has to be overcome in this venue.

Agree with the above.  I have flown other skins offline not just my own and they not only vary from machine to machine but from the way they look in posted screen shots.   I also find that the skin viewer looks much more like my vision than the skin's do in the game.   It's a bit of a record scratch.
