VR recommendations
« on: June 19, 2020, 04:34:04 PM »
All,

Assuming you had the hardware to support any of the questions below, what would be:

Complete BASIC VR equipment for use in Aces High?
Midrange or moderate equipment for use in Aces High?
Advanced equipment for use in Aces High?

What are the products, pluses and minuses, etc.?

While I fly Aces High often, I've not yet acquired the hardware to move to VR.  But, once I do, what are my options?  What are the pros and cons, etc.?

What's the base setup, what's the top end setup?

Thanks

Gramps

I'll post later Gramps, but one key thing to note is that HP has a new VR HMD coming out in a few months, and it's looking to be the culmination of several previous manufacturers efforts all combined, with Microsoft, Valve, and HP all having worked together on this one.  Google "HP Reverb G2" and get the 411 about it yourself, it's essentially going to take many of the features of Valve's Index, HP's Reverb, and Microsoft's...Microsoft and give VR sim/cockpit users a combination of features many have been banging their pots for.

I have a Rift S, Index, and Reverb right now, and will post what IMO the current standing is for all 3 in AH based on my limited combat, but decent amount of offline time.  Again, this will shortly all be irrelevant I think as the cost/peformance/feature ratio for the new Reverb G2 will make it a no brainer for AH3 and all other cockpit VR sims.  This will make your very relevant questions about low/mid/high range VR performance easy to answer in the fall, as it'll be "one ring to rule them all" sort of a deal, at least that's what it is shaping up to be I think, largely due to price/cost in relation to that performance (extremely competitive price for the new G2 and the best performance possible, as well as limited stock of other options due to the Covid supply issues/etc).

Thanks mate.  I have all Dell at the moment.  Upgrading to better PC with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti OC with 11GB GDDR6.  So, after blowing that cash, looking for an acceptable "cost" on VR.

appreciate the response GMAN!

The only issue with the Reverb G2 as far as I can see is its rather limited FOV.
THe Index is quite a bit better, and the Pimax headseater are far better in that regard.
However, the resolution and clarity of the G2 looks GREAT! And it will come in at a reasonable price too.
It also won't demand as 'hot' a system as the Pimax 8k series.
