converting to avi
« on: June 23, 2020, 01:51:38 PM »
Okay so when I try to turn an aces high movie into a .avi file, none of the codecs are supported and I am forced to use the no compression option. Once I do that I end up with two files with the same name. One is a .wav file the actual length of the clip and the other is a .avi file one a few second long..the very beginning of the movie (maybe 8 seconds on a 2 minute movie). Do I need to download some codecs? or what? I am new to this thing. Help? If I do need codecs, where can I find them? Thx.

Most people use third party software to capture the film. OBS studios works well, Geforce also has some capture software that works well too.

I suggest using a capture program like Vegas, OBS, or Fraps to record your video in the film viewer. The finished product is .avi and can then be placed in Vegas for editing.

I ran into this exact same problem, I keep running full AVI conversation, but only end up with a 10-20 second film. I don't have any other editor program...and how do you run that during Aces High to capture the film? Or are you still using the in-game film recording feature? :sigh: much confusion here...

OBS Studio is a free program you can get here.... https://obsproject.com/download

Setup isnt too hard to figure out. You can either "capture" the game as your playing, or you can capture an AH film on playback.

You can set up a hot key that will start the recording and another to stop it so you can film short fights, or whole long missions. Once you have your video you save it as an mp3 and you can either play back when you want, or if you have a Youtube account (which is free too) you can up load it to there and post a link.

Ok, I'll try it out tonight. It's just disappointing since the native film viewer has such great functionality with all the telemetry embedded. Thanks for the tip.

You can still use the native film program, I do even though the film viewer crashes about every other film play back.  If your looking to share them tho it better to use the 3rd party program to cut out just what you want to share. It will also convert it quicker and the file is easy to share.

OBS worked! I'm getting some reverb/echo on the sound recording tho. Not quite sure what that's all about...
