Toad. I used to play AA before we hit the road. I really liked it and got accused numerous times of hacking. What can I say I loved the hospital mission and learned all the hiding places and the grenade launcher was fun so I hoarded the round. I'll check into it.

Most of the maps are new now Mav. There are a very few servers running the old maps with updated graphics. There are two hospital missions, one with a lot of outside buildings and a quick play inside version.

Rude and I are pretty much getting our rear ends shot off. Eyesight and reflexes not what they were 15+ years ago. Having fun though.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

I like the Total War series https://www.totalwar.com/  and Paradox Interactive games https://www.paradoxplaza.com/  Especially Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II.  Also Steel Division 2 from them has good reviews but I myself have not tried it yet.  https://store.steampowered.com/app/919640/Steel_Division_2/

If you want to go hard core strategy give Gary Grigsby's War in the West, War in the East or War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition a crack.  The airpower aspect in War in the West is a game in itself.   https://www.matrixgames.com/game/gary-grigsbys-war-in-the-west

If you like old school games, Xenonauts is a recreation of the original XCom.  There is also a new XCOM (and both an expansion and a sequel) from Firaxis games, that is much updated graphics-wise and is a somewhat different game than the original.  both are single player, turn-based tactical games, with a bit of economy and strategy between missions, along with team management.  All are available on Steam.

I shouldn't forget Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/544610/Battlestar_Galactica_Deadlock

A cylindrical pseudo-3D 1st Cylon War space battleship-carrier game.  Its quite good, especially if you liked the TV show.  And the music, while not done by Bear McCreary, is amazingly just as good, and done in his style.  I personally uploaded the music from the game to YouTube and made a playlist:

If you get it, no need to bother with the expansions until you're sure you like the base game.

Boildown

This is the Captain.  We have a lil' problem with our entry sequence so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

I recommend any Total War game or Civilization VI for strategy. RTS, Company of Heroes is great and many like Men of War. The Paradox games are good, too although they are bit complex. Mount and Bland II is great as well, just has a few release bugs at the moment.

"Destroy All Humans" - Great game with retro humor.
"The Hunter - Call of the Wild" - has its moments.
"Aliens X" - Not really a FPS, but has a retro arcade feel to it.
"Sniper Elite 4" - best FPS since Quake.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Freespace
Freespace 2

I went to this site and found a launcher that allows me to play these two on my Win 10 Pro machine with zero problems.

While you can play Vanilla, I HIGHLY recommend that you use the FSPort version.  Greatly enhances the graphics making it look "modern". :D

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead

Lots of great choices in here.

In a slightly different vein from most suggestions above, I'll preface this by saying open world games are my crack.

RDR2 is one of the best ever single player games if you like that kind of thing.  It takes a fairly decent computer to run it.  Mine is a 2500k, 16GB RAM, and an R9 380.  It juuuuust barely runs it politely, I'd consider it bare minimum spec.  If fantasy is more your jam, Witcher 3 is truly excellent too.

If your computer is a bit older, Skyrim doesn't take a real beast to run and there's plenty of fun to be had.  Fallout 4 is a bit newer and is the same idea, but post-apocalyptic.

Wiley.
If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.
