Great info. I knew the red border had a short shelf life, but I did not know specifically when they were eliminated.

Here's another esoteric Corsair question. What are the white stripes that are commonly seen on the cowls of VF-17 Corsairs? I know that they are for - sealing panel gaps to prevent oil from being blown back onto the windscreen. But is the material paint or some sort of tape?

I noticed that both of your skins depict planes that did not have the stripes. And we can see in this thread that Butch had planes in both configurations. Since you say that your skin represents Butch's second tour aircraft, was this problem solved midway in the -1A production by Vaught?

Incredible skin and superb attention to detail! Love the Corsair! Great work! <S>
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

It's fuel-tank related I believe.

The tape itself from my understanding was just basic medical tape lol. Now as to why some had tape and others don’t I’m guessing some sealed better than others, or more likely the time period the picture was taken. This one actually does have the tape, but they painted over the tape with fresh Sea Blue paint. I’ll try to make it stand out more.

The previous one I did has the tape on the wings, -1/-1A had wing tanks as well. I’ve seen photos that have the full lot of wing and fuselage tape and others with single strips here and there. I’m guessing not every one leaked as bad.

was clued in by a squadmate on some details so added staining around the wing tanks and some more detail to the rear. Also added more round ammo canisters but hard to see here.

I think it looks great.   I might tweak the darker blue areas by a shade to the lighter side but that's probably nitpicking.

Really sharp machine.

I like the improvements to the weathering Whiteman, it looks well beaten up now.

Glad to see you intend to branch out into the F4Fs and F6F later on. Both are fairly bug-free shapes to skin. The Hellcat just has a minor light leak on the cowl rim, its nowhere near as bad as the F4Us' wing one though. The nice thing about the F4Fs is that they are AH3-era 2048 res skins. Also you don't need to do much to transform the template for one into the other. The only real issue with them is trying to trace what all the dozens of tiny parts on the bmp actually do, but I can help you out with that if needed.
