FW 190A-5 which belonged to Stabsstaffel(Command Squadron) JG 51 in the summer of 1944. The Stabsstaffel was only unit in JG 51 to use the Fw 190 continuously from it's introduction on the Eastern Front in August 1942 until the end of the war. By the summer of 1944, every gruppe in JG 51 which had 190's had transitioned to the Bf 109G-6. The Stabsstaffel was engaged in heavy action during Army Group Center's retreat from Russia and Belarus, often conducting jabo strikes against advancing Soviet troops. The most significant battle being the Soviet operation "Bagration" in late June and July 1944.
This aircraft features marking typical of the Stabsstaffel, with horizontal bars for and aft of the fuselage cross and a number ahead of the forward bar. Yellow markings on the propeller spinner, lower cowl, lower wing tips, rear fuselage and rudder were applied as an IFF measure.
