Eastern Front 190A-5 from JG 51
« on: October 18, 2020, 11:48:01 PM »
FW 190A-5 which belonged to Stabsstaffel(Command Squadron) JG 51 in the summer of 1944. The Stabsstaffel was only unit in JG 51 to use the Fw 190 continuously from it's introduction on the Eastern Front in August 1942 until the end of the war. By the summer of 1944, every gruppe in JG 51 which had 190's had transitioned to the Bf 109G-6. The Stabsstaffel was engaged in heavy action during Army Group Center's retreat from Russia and Belarus, often conducting jabo strikes against advancing Soviet troops. The most significant battle being the Soviet operation "Bagration" in late June and July 1944.

This aircraft features marking typical of the Stabsstaffel, with horizontal bars for and aft of the fuselage cross and a number ahead of the forward bar.  Yellow markings on the propeller spinner, lower cowl, lower wing tips, rear fuselage and rudder were applied as an IFF measure.

Thanks!

This one was kind of a quickie build. I have three more Luftwaffe schemes in the same theme that will all be finished this week. Each one is a bit more elaborate than this one. German mottled camouflage can be pretty laborious sometimes. It's fun when you're in the groove of making it, but other times it can be a slog to get through.

Excellent work! Keep them coming!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Those patterns do look like they could wear you down, but look really good. For me its chipping the wings on the corsairs and trying to make them each one different.

Thanks for the compliments, guys.

It's very much a similar process as making paint chips. If my mind is in a phase that results in making subconscious patterns, then the results end up being crap and I end up starting over.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how you do it.   It's quite an effect.
