If only cactus, jack-rabbits and cattle could vote.

This might be a little more illuminating...

And Texas should really be colored purple.  Demographically, it will inevitably turn blue.

Or another useful visualization of the voting data...

By County Scaled by Population

See all the red states with the tiny dots.  That's because those are counties with like twenty people in them.

Square footage does not equal population.

Yep. Stack people on top of one another and you get batshirt crazy people. Blue circles are the irrefutable proof.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

You see plenty of Trump-tards out there claiming it's "proof" that there is fraud because Biden couldn't have won the popular vote because Donny won more counties in state X.

Poor uneducated bumpkins.

They should go back to watching Duck Dynasty and not hurt themselves trying to think so hard.

Roughly speaking (+/- a few % or so), about half the population of the US is on one side and half on the other side.  Neither group of the bifurcated population is small.

Well, that map was showing more like 60/40.  But I suspect are large number of those blue votes were disaffected Republicans who voted Blue to get rid of Trump.  I know the feeling.  :rofl

All in all I'll agree with your assessment.  But certainly not what what's his name was trying to imply and not what Trumpers are trying to imply every time they wave the red map around.  "Look!  See how many of these squares of empty desolate space devoid of human habitation we colored red???  MAGA!"

But really, that is only a smaller part of the story.

The real story is what is the 10 year trend look like?

Well, that map was showing more like 60/40.

The land area of republicans is enormously larger than democrats.  The population who are democrats vs. republicans is approximately even.

My point is that neither side can dismiss the other side as being small in number of people.

I'll accept that, as I said.

But to me the more interesting question is which is getting larger over time, and which is getting smaller over time?

The world is in flux and a static snapshot only tells a small part of the meaningful story.

The right and republicans talk a lot but don't end up doing anything -- like your previous "all hat and no cattle" comment.

The left is willing to fight hard, even fight dirty, for what they want.  The left has people willing to riot and cause mayhem.  The left has cattle.

We've got a country largely divided into two social-political philosophies.  The best way for that to work is by truly following the Constitution:  a thin layer of federal government, with states that have a lot of autonomy.  People can then live in the state that suits them and be happy.  A thick layer of federal government that forces uniformity of states is the realm that creates motivations for succession and civil wars.

But to me the more interesting question is which is getting larger over time, and which is getting smaller over time?

People who are democrats control the majority of education, media, and big tech, which is useful in creating new democrats.  Democrats also influence immigration (both legal and illegal) more than republicans -- and nearly every other country is far more left-leaning than the US.

Unsurprisingly, democrats are kicking the butts of republicans in growth.  If republicans don't up their game a lot, the republican party will be insignificant in the future.
